TOC Devotion: What Are You Doing?

What are you doing?

Read:  James 1:22

The Christian message is about grace.  We are saved, adopted, given the Holy Spirit and eternal life and we did not have to do anything to earn it.  All we had to do is believe Jesus was who he said he was and accept him as our savior.  Glory awaits us on the other side of death so we live with hope and great expectations.

We are blessed to have been born in the United States, and have never had to worry about where our next meal will come from or where we will sleep tonight.

However some of our brothers and sisters have not been so fortunate and we are all called to help them.

We take so much for granted.  When was the last time you realized how rich you are?  For me it usually takes a trip to ACE ministries in Jamaica, a trip downtown to GAP ministries or helping a homeless family through Family Promise.

When was the last time you looked into the eyes of someone who was hungry as you served them food or was homeless and you helped them find a place to live?

I don't know about you but I long to hear my savior say "Well done, good and faithful servant.  You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.  Come and share your master's happiness."  Matthew 25:21

We are all blessed in a unique way.  We are Christ's hands and feet while we are here.

Consider tithing not only 10% of your income but 10% of your time.  I have never met anyone who regretted it!

Let the Holy Spirit lead you to that ministry that touches your heart and act on that leading.

FYI some of the men of our church serve supper at GAP once a month on a Sunday night.  Or you might want to be part of the work of ACE in Jamaica in February with the men's and women's conferences, the summer with youth doing construciton and VBS, or the medical team in late fall with Dr. Ron Eaker.  Or look for church announcments as we host Family Promise families 3-4 times a year.
